IIT-Kharagpur invents microneedle for painless shot

All it took for inspiration to develop a painless injection was a mosquito bite. Yes, a mosquito uses a unique method to deliver a painless bite and researchers at IIT Kharagpur wondered if they could make an injection that mimicked the mechanical action involved. While most of us think that a mosquito bite hurts, in reality, the irritation is due to chemicals in its saliva. After three years of research, IIT-Kgp, along with the Tokai University of Japan, has invented this novel injection that uses a microneedle to extract blood or deliver drug painlessly by using the same suction-based pressure that a female mosquito uses to suck blood. The diameter of the needle is just 30 micro metre. Besides others, this injection will especially benefit diabetes mellitus patients as blood tests are critical for its diagnosis and management. These patients have to check their blood gl...

Everything on Netflix in one second can download using the world fastest internet speed of 178 Tbps

Researchers at the University College London have set a new world record for the fastest internet in the world at 178 terabits per second or 178,000 Gbps

  • In order to get such insane speeds, UCL researchers have applied a higher range of wavelengths instead of the standard fibre optic ones as well as used newer amplifier technology to boost the signal farther while amplifying it massively.
  • As of now, the infrastructure uses a bandwidth of 4.5THz and 9THz commercial bandwidth has just surfaced in some markets. However, this super-fast internet uses a 16.8THz bandwidth for achieving the 178 terabit speed.
  • Just in May, world experienced the fastest internet speeds in Australia at 44.2Tbps, however, this new technology has a considerable advantage.
  • Surprised to know that according to UCL, upgrading amplifiers would only cost a fraction of what it costs to install new fibre optic cables.
  • Everything on Netflix in one second can download using this new technology.
  • The development of new technologies is crucial to maintaining this trend towards lower costs while meeting future data rate demands that will continue to increase, with as yet unthought-of applications that will transform people's lives.
  • However, all of this is experimental and this technology is not going to be put to commercial use any time soon, so don’t get excited.
